A Message from Dr. O’Neill

I am honored to join Dr. Johnson as his Presidential Partner at Albion College. I look forward to meeting and getting to know faculty and staff, students and alumni, donors and community members in Albion. My career in higher education has been about advocating for the greatest possible access to opportunities, and it is Albion’s commitment to its students and their success—as well as the investment that donors and alumni have made to support student access to opportunities—that really attracted us to Albion.

For me, college was a place where mentors saw something in me that I could not see in myself, who introduced me to possibilities I could not know existed. Consequently, I am a champion for student access to opportunities—opportunities to engage in research projects, participate in global travel courses, connect with community partners and prepare themselves for post-graduate opportunities.

During this stay-at-home time I have been bingeing the Albion YouTube channel—shout-out to Hannah and the new weekly Web Series. I loved the Stay Home Stay Safe meals and can’t wait to try one of the Foundry brownies and pull up a stool at the Malleable. I have also read several issues of lo Triumphe!. What I notice in the lo and on the YouTube channel is the clear commitment to the student/faculty relationships, the joy I hear when students talk about Albion, and the ever presence of the City of Albion for everyone. I love that faculty, students and alumni have put so much back into the community.

I look forward to joining all of you, to figuring out in what way I can be most useful, and to making Albion our new home.
